|Saturday, May 12 there will be a Wine Tour to be held for members of the club and guests to visit wineries up-island. Five different wineries are to be visited and there will be a gourmet
three-course lunch included for the cost of $90 per person.
Program for May 8 reported by Lorna Curtis
President-Elect Jack Petrie presided and noted that May is unusual in not having a Rotary theme, so therefore he is designating
it “Choose Your Committee Month”. If you don’t, you will be asigned one because all must serve! Tom Lidkea played for O Canada and Ron Cooley said grace.
Visitors, introduced by Irene Davie:
Cindy Hayworth, Abaco, Bahamas, Property Management;
Carol Toal, S. Cowichan;
Colin Smith, Royal City.
Liz Rodiles was guest of the Club;
Ron Gaudet was a guest of Ben Andersen;
Kathleen Froese was a guest of the Club, and the following Interact members were all guests of the Club: Sierra Anima (also our outbound student) and the co-presidents of Interact, Clare Milbraith and Maya Fuhr.
Leslie Rogers-Warnock fined Jack for forgetting about their weekend away together???
Hazel for a lost name tag;
Steve for his business announcement (something about having no directional sense);
Lynne for leaving the last meeting in a brand new convertible;
Margaret for no longer having four young men living with her;
Tom Croft for being late for cash duties;
and a special fine for David Sills for having the gall to suggest that snitchers to the S@A should receive a fee.
Happy/Sad $: Neil M. sad he had to write another $90 cheque for the wine tour – it appears the event organizer lost the first set of cheques. (Now who might that modest person be?)
Tom Croft thanked everyone for supporting him in the swimathon.
Joan Peggs wanted to thank Neil R. who stopped by to help her prune her trees.
Joe congratulated Ben who has been appointed to the National Parole Board. (Eds Note: Ben is stepping down as Chief of the OBPF and Ron Gaudet will be replacing him. The Force will remain in good hands!). Pictured below: Ron Gaudet and Ben Andersen.

Hazel Meredith – asked club members to support the Inspirational Evening for the Schizophrenic
Society (by donation only). The evening will have a number of inspirational speakers and will be held on May14th from 7 – 9 pm at the Holiday Inn across from Mayfair
Dave Maxwell – Golf Tournament fundraiser is coming up on August 24th – Lori and Dave are looking for people to help on the committee!
Dave Maxwell introduced the speakers Clare Milbrath, Maya Fuhr and Sierra Anima from the Oak Bay Interact Club (club meets on Mondays at Oak Bay High School).
The Interact reps gave an overview of club activities and projects for this year. They are raising money for AIDS orphans at the Cotlands Orphanage in South Africa. Club members designed a t-shirt that sells for $18; if they sell 500 t-shirts they will make $9000 – one t-shirt sale saves a child who has AIDS for two weeks.
The Interact Club also hosted a fashion show and silent auction. Nine stores donated clothes for the fashion show and the club raised $3000.
New project will be a Day in May at Oak Bay High where students pay to play games such as obstacle courses etc. If they wear their AIDS t-shirt they are entered to win prizes.
The Interact reps thanked Teresa and Tricia for their confidence and support of the club and also all club members who attended the fashion show.
John Edgell thanked Claire, Maya and Sierra for attending the meeting and giving us an overview of the Interact Club activities. (Eds. Note: very impressive, indeed!)
