Program for March 15, 2011 - Reported by Ron Beyers

Ceremonies Master, Neil Rawnsley, fined all those with Irish ties $1, along wNeil kindly acknowledged Joan Peggs for all her good work as stand-in for club President John Edgell.

Heather Aked contributed a happy dollar in regards to her upcoming trip to Cuba.

The 50/50 draw was won by Perry Bamji. He credited his win to being the last member to arrive for the meeting! As he said, “it pays to be last!”

With all Irish wannabes. Several members were also fined $1 for not wearing green in tribute to St. Patrick’s Day.

The meeting was primarily a social meeting, however Jim Force did have some club business to discuss as director of membership. His presentation was to ask for the club members’ support for the club to apply to participate in an RI Corporate Membership Pilot program.

There was a brief presentation as to how the pilot program would work along with the expectations, reporting requirements, and program considerations that RI has mapped out for this pilot program. Jim then asked the members in attendance for questions, and answered them as best as he could, given the open-ended nature of this program. It was acknowledged that the program will give us a high degree of flexibility to determine how we would like to implement the program for our club.

A vote was held, with 30 members in favour of the motion and 2 against. As this was below the minimum 2/3 vote of members, Jim said he would proceed with contacting absent members to ask them for the necessary support to proceed with the application.

Visiting Rotarians And Guests

Acting President Joan Peggs introduced Brad Rotto, guest of Gary Smith. There were no visiting Rotarians.

In acknowledgement of St. Patrick’s Day Joan acknowledged and thanked the Oak Bay Recreation Centre for providing a wonderfully decorated cake. Various club members also shared their Irish ties, including Tom Lidkea, Mary Canty (who was married to an Irishman for 61 years), Hans Ockermueller, Jim Force, and Ron Cooley.
