BBQ Luncheon Meeting at Windsor Park Pavilion held June 21, 2011. Reporters: Eugen Bannerman and John Jordan
Photography by John Edgell and Tricia Timmermans

All members had the opportunity to visit displays put up by the eight club committees that were strutting their stuff around the room, and to select one for their involvement during the coming year. Jacqueline enhanced the displays with some of her very new portraits.

DallasDallas was looking her usual glamorous, happy self at lunch.

The Oak Bay Rotary Foundation announced it is open for business and accepted its first donation from John Edgell, who won the draw with the white marble.

INSTALLATION DINNER INFO:

The dinner is being held in The Palm Court of The Fairmont Empress Hotel.

6 pm – no host bar
7 pm – dinner; $45/person (all inclusive).

The menu will be from the Bengal Room Curry Buffet (mild seasonings to accommodate all palates; extra spice can be added with condiments). Joan Peggs can fill you in on anything you are unsure of.

Eugen and AlexandraAlexandra Wever, from Guatemala City and a student at the local Canadian College of Performing Arts, was guest of Eugen Bannerman. Alexandra sang the Guatemalan national anthem after "O Canada." Celebrations master Rod Sim asked her to pick the winning ticket numbers, and lo and behold, Alexandra picked her own number on the second round. But the white marble was left for someone else to pick up.

Visiting Rotarians And Guests

Joan Firkins noted that Oak Bay ranked as third in per capita giving to the Rotary Foundation among 88 District clubs. Total: $15,700 last year of which $7,800 will return to District clubs in grants in 3 years. The other half goes to scholarships, PolioPlus and other outstanding Rotary programs administered by Rotary International in Evanston, IL. A concern is that only 28 members from our club made that contribution.

Rod and Lorna
The club presented Lorna wtih a check to complete the renovation and upgrade of the Carnarvon Rotary Water Park. Above: Rod and Lorna enjoying something - perhaps they were counting the money?
