Adventures in Citizenship is a unique opportunity for a selected student to travel to Ottawa and gain a better understanding of how Canada is run. The student will meet political leaders and senior officials, will socialize with other youth from across Canada, visit the Canadian Museum of Civilization or the Canadian War Museum, view the Musical Ride (Mounties), and will learn about the workings of our democratic institutions. To date, over 10,000 students have participated in the program including former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, the Right Honourable Joe Clark, and the Honourable Edward Broadbent.

2. Adventures in Music in Comox for students in Grades 9, 10, and 11. Held over 2 weeks. Deadline is early May.

Since 2000, 120 students, sponsored by Rotary clubs in other communities, have participated in "Adventures in Music" and been hosted by Comox Valley Rotarians in their homes. These students were enrolled in either the Pacific Jazz Workshop or the Orchestral and Chamber Music Program, each of two weeks duration, at the Comox Valley Youth Music Centre (CYMC). Click here to see what the students think of their experience. CYMC counts among its alumni many well known, distinguished musicians, the most famous of which is jazz great Diana Krall of Nanaimo, BC. Students are enrolled in either a one or two week course, working with professionals individually and in ensembles. Sponsoring Rotary clubs subsidize the students' tuition and return airfare to Comox, B.C. You can download a program brochure and application in pdf format at http://strathconasunrise.bc.ca/pdfs/CYMC_2006.pdf . In 2007 the Pacific Jazz Workshop will be held July 3rd – July 15th, and the Orchestra/Concert Band Music Program July 23rd – August 5th. For further information contact Rotarian Larry Rennison, Adventures in Music Coordinator, at rennison-fam@shaw.ca or visit the CYMC website at http://www.cymc.ca
