Club Assembly
Club Committee Chairs' Report Day

Committee Reports:

Gary Nazar - Public Relations. Gary asked members to buy a business card-sized ad in the Oak Bay News for $250, after he reported on a successful year for the Public Relations Committee.

Tav Macpherson - Foundation. Tav reported on Foundation activities:  Polio Plus—we have donated over $14,000—our club ranks 4th  among 86 clubs in our district; our club donated 2 Shelter Boxes to Haiti

Joan Peggs - Adminstration Chair, Joan Peggs, told us that Feb. 23 is the l05th anniversary of the beginning of Rotary in Chicago. Joan suggested this date should be Polio Plus Day and that we canvas Oak Bay Ave. for donations. As well, on April 15th there will be a 5 km. Club Walk event to piggyback on Polio Plus Day.

Peter Lawrie —Community Services

The committee has two priorities:

1) Partnership funding with the city for upgrades to Rotary Water Park in 2011 (about $50,000).
2) Long term partnership to improve accessibility in playgrounds.
Peter also reported on Interact Club priorities: Malawi, Memory Café (Feb. 17) and raising money for Shelter Box. Other community services projects: Christmas Kettles. Mustard Seed, SMILE card.

Brian Lamb, Treasurer’s report:
Last year we were overdrawn by $8000 (for Malawi Girls' School); we need to replenish the reserves. One way to do this will be the Tuscany Dinner.

Jim Force, Membership Chair
Jim presented "A Decade of Giving":
Rotary Club of Oak Bay gave away $510,000 from 2000 to 2010 which works out to $980 per week for ten years. We have given $265,000 to the Foundation and International and $245,000 to Community and Youth.  We have also given 21 Shelter boxes during the same period.

The meeting closed with Tom Lidkea accompanying us in God Save the Queen

Sergeant-at-Arms

Leslie, our Sgt.-at-Arms had Olympic questions for us:
1. Why are there 5 rings? Pablo got the answer: to represent each continent; 2.Why are the flags the colours that they are: they represent the colours in all the flags of the world.

Heather put in Happy $ to recognize the Shelter Box donated by Colquitz School and Joe had Happy $ to tell us the story of Edith Josie, the writer for Old Crow, who wrote a folksy newspaper column from up north (Old Crow to be exact) which began: "Here Are the News."
Barbara reported that Lynne Murray had broken her foot.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Heather announced the “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” event on March 13 at 6 p.m.  She asked people to sign up to either attend or host.
